This is the last installment of our official 2026 trend posts. We’ve covered kitchens, bathrooms, colors, and now…decor. I know this “business as usual” content can feel like whiplash to what is going on in the real world. But if you are in need of something light, just for a moment, I have been pouring over the design side of the internet to find the most fun and best decor trends for 2026. Now, this doesn’t mean what was “on trend” last year or years before is out, but instead, additional fun things to consider and be on the lookout for. Let’s get to it!

Thick (& Sometimes Matted) Frames

For a minute, the design world has heavily favored thin, delicate frames. Lots of float mounting in there, too! And if I’m honest, a thin frame is still my personal preference in my home. BUT, given that the elevated English cottage style is still going very strong, it only makes sense that a thicker, vintage frames are coming back in a big way.

I do also think that with wallpaper that’s busier and more colorful, a thick frame helps a piece of art to stand out and not get lost in the overall pattern.

They are very good at adding instant vintage charm and soul to a room. Had all the frames in this wonderful space been newer and thinner, it still would have been a lovely design, but the feel wouldn’t have had that same visual depth.

Surprise, surprise, this example is one of my favorites and shows that this trend isn’t just for one style. No wallpaper. No floral patterns. Just clean, modern, simple lines, and soft tones. Plus, that beautiful frame configuration…I couldn’t love it more.

This room by Heidi is definitely what I mean by “elevated English cottage style,” and she is one of the best at it. This style may not always be “the #1 trend,” but it will never be “out”. Now, we are also here to talk thick frames, so take a peek at the two stacked above the bed. The gilded gold warms up the room, adds soul, and the dark paintings really ground the space.

These frames aren’t quite as thick as most of the others, but they aren’t thin either, and show how they work with yet another, far more modern style.

I believe this is a styled product shot from the design firm Omerozturk Interiors, but look how beautiful the contrast of the modern furniture and color palette is with the thick vintage frame on the wall. They work perfectly together, creating just enough tension. 10/10.

Tin

When I brought up to the team that I thought tin was going to be big this year, I was waiting for them to tilt their heads and raise one or both eyebrows. But before any of that could happen, Caitlin shrieked an overwhelming “YES!” I just don’t think you can put a price on that kind of design validation:) Apparently, Caitlin had been pinning all kinds of tin decor, so we just might be onto something…

However, I don’t think all of these examples are 100% tin and may lean more towards tarnished silver (?), so we can think of it more as a “tin aesthetic” too.

This bathroom and custom metal shower screen stopped me in my tracks the moment I first laid my eyes on it. The whole space is filled with incredibly intentional and beautiful design choices, but the metal (tin-like) screen is one for the books.

While different in that it’s the whole back wall, this tin/silver wall paneling is quite the showstopper, too.

Ah, my FAVORITE category…lighting. This incredibly cool lamp is a collaboration between Katharina Marie Herold and Alana Burns. It has that thin, wonderful metal work with such a beautiful patina. Would I be a happier person if I owned one of these beauties? I mean, probably:)

This one is an American antique tin chandelier from the late 18th to early 19th century. What a piece! I bet we’ll be seeing more of these types of pieces on our feeds. The thing I love so much about tin or thin metals in general is how delicate and malleable they are. I love the little shapes, how charming the indented patterns are, and when they are curled like in the circle art piece below…

It feels dark, delicate, unique, has movement, and grounds the space without taking it over.

Chik Bamboo Blinds

Originally from Northern India, this style of woven, patterned blinds is anything but new. However, I feel like I’ve been seeing this lighter-toned version more than ever. The light-colored bamboo and white fabric trim add a textured softness to a room. I mean, that’s exactly what they did in this wonderful space. Had they chosen a dark fabric shade, the room would still be lovely, but far more moody and rich. Both options are great, but evoke very different energies.

This one has a gilas pattern, adding another layer of visual texture. It’s playful but leans traditional in a really lovely way.

There are other trim and pattern colorways too, if white and tan isn’t what you’re looking for. It’s a small switch that makes a massive difference in impact.

These sweet blinds don’t just belong in colorful, pattern-filled homes. I really love that pop of pattern rolled up in the window. It’s quiet, but you feel it.

And finally, if THE Jake Arnold is putting them in his projects, you know it’s a great choice.

Drapes + Relaxed Roman Shade Combo

Staying in the window treatment world. I’ve been noticing more of the drapes + relaxed roman shade combo in the same (or very similar) fabric. When done right, it’s sooooo romantic, no?? This first example is from a trip to Paris that designer Michelle Gage took, and those window treatments have likely been there for many years, but they are such a beautiful example. And is a reminder that this is, of course, not new;)

If you scroll to the second photo, you’ll get a better view of that breathtaking window treatment combo. I can only assume that being in this room feels like sleeping in a cloud.

You don’t need to have a valance, but it’s a fun addition if you love the look of it. And because each piece is the same color, it doesn’t look too busy.

The Roman shades in this example are the least “relaxed” but still very romantic and so beautiful. The butter yellow of the window treatments and the walls simply feels like a hug for your eyes.

Wall Plates

This was definietly of trend of 2025, but it seems to be growing and with full force. Almost every room on my feed has wall plates. Kitchens (of course), dining rooms (duh), but also living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms. This decor trend completely transcends almost every style. It’s a fairly easy way to make a room feel uniquely decorated because no two plated walls are the same. This one above kept strictly to the space’s color palette, but went slightly more traditional than the overall style of the room. They are also placed very uniformly, which is a great option or…

…just choose a few you love that are different styles and sizes.

There are about 10 insanely cool things about this dining room (the stump CABINET being one of them), but this collection of plates makes me so happy. They are playful, whimsical, but deeply chic. I also love that they extended the display to the window wall as well, instead of just using the one main wall. It’s just a little unexpected in the best way.

Oh, looking for adorable food-themed plates to hang on your wall? Well, they may all be in this lovely room! The amount makes such a statment but it’s also deeply fun. Decor can and should be at least a little eccentric.

But maybe you want plates that are a little quieter in color and pattern. Enter these beautiful metal plates over this fireplace. These plates are still fun, add a 3-dimensional element, but let’s the other colorful art be the main color attraction.

This home is the alpine retreat of the late Rosita Missoni and is said to be filled with wonderful found treasures. I think that’s why I love wall plates so much in general. They can be easily collected over time and tell stories from your life. Of course, by the looks of it, these beautiful plates are a set, so likely not individually collected, but wow, are they vibrant and so fun!

See! Bedrooms too. This is such a sweet collection, and I love that while they are all blue and white/cream, the shapes and sizes are different. How great is the shell one!? If I ever design and photograph my kitchen, you can be sure I’ve already started my plate collection:)

Western/Cowboy Themed Art

I’ve been seeing a lot of this style of art for sale on my feeds. I even considered this piece for my living room last year. I love the tones and the vintage but fresh feel they tend to give. The western “aesthetic” is huge in fashion too (I’ve been wearing boots and my mom’s old black leather and turquoise stone belt all over the place, who am I!?). So it’s no real surprise to me that it would also be very popular in home decor, too.

The styles of art vary, but overall, it’s a really versatile look. I love this little cowboy in Sophie Rowell’s cottage bedroom.

You can even combine this and the last plate trend in one:) It’s a perfect wall plate.

Square Knobs

This one was a last minute additon that I noticed as I was finalizing the list… square wooden knobs. Now, I did say in the kitchen trends post that wood on wood knobs to cabinet fronts was on trend. But this is about the shape of knobs on furniture. This is a vintage piece (WOW), but we all know that new trends pull heavily from vintage. It’s the ultimate source of inspiration.

If anyone is ahead of what is cool (because they say so), it’s YSG Studio. This is a sneak peek of a piece that will be in a project reveal this year. The knobs are technically little rectangles that, when everything is closed, make a square. Like all of their projects, I can’t wait to see this one.

This is a gorgeous new piece with incredibly cool square knobs.

And these knobs are a bit of a departure from a simple square, but it still feels in the same world to me. I love all of these so much.

Laqured Pieces

Laquared furniture and laquared walls are coming for us this year in a big way. The whole team feels it. Choosing a shiny lacquered piece (especially a deeply colored one like this burgundy coffee table above) will instantly make your space feel fresh and alive. A heavy sheen will do that. It feels like a modern throwback to a vintage mod style.

Here’s another great coffee table example. This deep, shiny green is totally unexpected but makes this room feel even cooler than it already is. Plus, any spills are an easy cleanup 😉

It’s not all about coffee tables. Dining chairs, lamps, trays, and side tables. The options are nearly endless.

But a larger statement piece, like this desk, is so fun. But notice the pendant too. Both pieces are in the red color family but different tones, so it’s not too matchy.

I had to include these lacquered burgundy cabinets. WOW. An incredible design statement. The floating shelves are also in that same shiny lacquer paint.

Large Scale Photographs

They are back and bigger! Large-scale photos are simply just so cool and chic to me. What is also kinda great is that if you take an awesome photo yourself, get it printed and framed for likely much less than if you were to buy new. But also, if you have the budget, buy from artists!

I adore this example above because the style of the piece contrasts with the aesthetic of the room, but the wallpaper and the photo speak to each other because they both represent nature in different styles.

This large photo is the perfect way to set the mood for this dining. A little meta, if you will. The photo of people joyfully sharing a meal together is what I would assume the owners of this home want to create every time they host. It adds a lot of life to the space, especially when it’s not being used.

First off, notice the lacquered ceilings??? Ok, but back to that beautiful could photo. It again contrasts the space in the perfect amount. The colors are in line with the space, but the contemporary style doesn’t, and it creates that perfect amount of, say it with me, tension.

This is Aly’s (of Aly and AJ) eclectic, warm home. It’s filled with so many fun and wonderful pieces, and one of those is that great photo over the fireplace. The colors perfectly match the room’s palette, raising your eye up, making the room feel taller, and the crispness of the photo adds a distinct, fresh feeling.

Heirloom Textiles

This one has been brewing, and we think this year, heirloom textiles will be even more popular than last. Vintage-inspired blankets with beautiful geometric, plaid-like patterns. This blue one is a favorite.

You can spot the pink one on Kendall Jenner’s bed in her newly revealed mountain home. Heidi Caillier knows trends, but never do you feel that you aren’t looking at something that will stand the test of time. And by the descriptor of “heirloom,” that’s exactly what these textiles are meant to do.

They don’t just have to live on a bed! They are so pretty that you might as well hang them on your walls too:)

Or use them as headboard fabric.

This one is a little more modern, but so fun and still feels vintage.

Swans

Lastly, this is an odd one because I don’t have any environmental shots, but if you’ve looked in almost any design shop, decor section at a big box store, etc, you are seeing swans. I’ve seen them all over Anthro, but also a sweet little independent shop in Brooklyn. Even in fashion. They are coming to a home near you. Be ready. Swans are to 2026 as owls were to 2010.

Bathroom trends (much like kitchen trends) are a funny thing to evaluate on a year-to-year basis because they simply do not move that quickly. If they did, by the time you got through the design process, material selection, permitting, contingencies and snafus, and then final install, your spaces would already be obsolete. That would simply be a ridiculous and wasteful way to live in our homes.

That is not to say there isn’t anything to talk about, though, because there’s always a new idea, color trend (like these I wrote up recently for 2026), or material popping onto our radar that makes us scream YESSSSS, including the six concepts below I’ve been noticing more and more in beautiful, finished bathrooms. Like many renovation-required trends, they tend to begin in luxury spaces, so you’ll see a lot of aspirational homes here, but that doesn’t mean you can’t borrow inspiration for your own homes from them. That, or just sit back and enjoy the show for the sake of design entertainment.

Amber-Colored Tile

Last year was all about burgundy zellige tiles, but this year? Amber, caramel, and earthy mustard reign supreme. This color tile is absolutely everywhere right now and is so adaptable to many styles. Take a look above at the killer shower stall our friend Brady Tolbert designed in his home; in true Brady style, it’s cool, contemporary, yet warm and graphically neutral.

However, here, designed by the team at Dunham Robinson, you can see a more traditional aesthetic with the chrome and stone sink, floral wallpaper, and wavy wood mirror. The turmeric-like hue works well to draw attention away from the white fixtures, which could otherwise appear somewhat sterile.

These tiles, in a bathroom by Annie Downing Interiors, are certainly more terracotta than they are amber, but the vibes still hit the same. To me, the takeaway here is how well they play with other jewel tones and saturated shades, such as the deep, chalky blue in the other tile design.

Tiles aren’t getting all the burnt caramel love; designers like Reath Design (who collaborated with Emily Farnham Architecture on this space, shot by Laure Joliet), are using the color in bathrooms via paint, as well. How marvelous does it look here with the oxblood marble on the vanity and shower stall?

So far, we’ve seen amber tiles marry beautifully with mustard, black-and-white, denim blue, and deep red. Next up, courtesy of Pierce & Ward (shot by Michael Clifford Photography), is olive green and aqua. What a stunning way to bring new life to vintage pieces such as that sink.

Colored Fixtures

Two years ago, Caitlin wrote a piece about colored plumbing fixtures in the bathroom as something to keep our eye on (thanks Kohler for bringing these back around more accessibly!), and she was 100-percent right. And look, I know this is fairly niche, but who decided that white porcelain had to be the standard of “safe” choices in a bathroom’s design? “But you might get tired of that pistachio green toilet, Arlyn!” Well, who is to say I wouldn’t get tired of white? We can use the same logic here. If you’re designing a bathroom for home resale, it’s not worth the effort of getting it right, design-wise, but if it’s for you, and you are a fellow color lover, I say GO FOR IT.

It doesn’t have to be something as large or prominent as a toilet, either. Faucets and faucet handles can do the trick, too. Hannah Go of Studio Hanego selected candy-coated red Fantini fixtures for her client’s bathroom. The slap of color is just the right amount of unexpected pigment to break through the beige-and-white color palette, making it feel playful and youthful instead of overly serene.

Here’s another angle of the same space, where Go carried the Fantini faucet into the sink area for a cohesive design story. (That sculptural floral arrangement is by Gentle Offerings out of LA, in case anyone is wondering.)

Another tip-toe entrance into the world of lively fixtures is with a partially-colored item, like this cast-iron farmhouse basin in a room by Hendricks Churchill. And the beauty of a sink like this (or anything cast iron, for that matter) is that it can be reglazed should you need to change the color down the line.

This bathroom by Jamie Haller—shot by Jenna Ohnemus Peffley—highlights two of our favorite bathroom trends so far: amber zellige tiles and a butter yellow vintage sink. The room looks both like a perfectly preserved time capsule from the 1970s but also something that very much could have been designed and installed today (because it was). Good design can be appreciated no matter the decade, in my opinion.

Giving very different vibes, but the same design backbone is this happy little spot by, yet again, Reath Design. Not only is the sink itself an azure I can barely look away from, but the cross handles on the sink are a sky blue.

Built-In Tub Surrounds

The freestanding tub became the calling card of a luxury bathroom a decade or so ago, but as things happen, that quickly got tired, thanks in great part to property flippers and developers who would shove one into a space even when it didn’t make much sense.

And while a stand-alone tub can still be a wonderful hallmark of a bathing space, of course, don’t underestimate a built-in tub surround. No longer relegated to the second-tier guest bath, they are now being used more and more in primary suites. They have their merits, too: The overhang surface is great storage for bathing supplies, and even decor items like art and candles, as seen above by Heather Peterson Design.

For a bathtub surround worthy of a primary suite, it’s important to be mindful that the surround itself elevates the design, rather than drags it down. Here, designer Nicole Dohmen for Atelier ND Interior brought the large-format stone from the floor up around the tub to create a seamless visual transition.

Here, in a bathroom transformed by Trouthouse, the small square yellow tile of the shower walls comes down around the tub insert, as well. This could have easily been a standard white porcelain tub, but the tile surround creates a more intentional design moment.

Would I be nervous to have a wooden top and sides to my bathtub? Yes, but certainly, there’s a way to make it work. Either way, it sure does look serene and spa-like thanks to the minds at Honeyedfigs that dreamt up this muted space.

On the opposite end of muted is this glitz and glam bathroom by Gregory Rockwell. I love how the red marble continues from the bathroom sink basin, tub wall, and floor, and baseboard detailing.

Fluted Glass

Shower details always make our bathroom trends roundup, and this year, we’re covering glass specifics. Fluted details in general have been everywhere for five-plus years, and now they’re frequently being used in contemporary bathroom spaces. Advantages include moderate privacy while allowing light diffusion, added texture, and limiting the visibility of water spots. Bonus points for a cool red frame to make the wall of glass the protagonist of the room’s design, as Megowan Architectural did here.

I’m partial to how youthful ribbed glass can come off looking with a colored door frame like in the previous project. Here, the mauve-lilac Butterfly Studio used here is quite eye-catching, don’t you think?

The international design and property acquisition firm Banda Studio kept things sleek and luxurious in this outrageously covetable bathroom with a frameless fluted shower wall. The vertical lines of the glass texture add a nice rigidity to the more organic veining of the marble and Roman clay or limewash walls and floors.

Stop. Scroll to the fourth photo. Okay, now we can talk. I really wanted to show this bathroom, in the home of celeb Rita Ora, designed by Joanna Plant, for anyone thinking fluted glass is simply for contemporary bathrooms. It’s not, and certainly has a place in more traditionally minded areas, too.

Stone Basin Sinks

Last year, I presented the idea of raw-edge stone sinks as a trend, and this year, it’s similar but more refined and polished. Full stone sink basins are very popular right now as they strike a balance between simple, clean lines, luxury, and an impactful visual story through dramatic natural stone.

There’s a lot to take note of in this bathroom by Marie Flanigan, including the gorgeous pinkish stone for the sink basin and vanity. The side wall-mounted faucet is a unique approach that, to my eye, keeps the focus on the stone; the pendant light on the left beautifully echoes and balances the small window at right.

Cannes-based firm Caprini & Pellerin designed this elegant luxury bathroom, complete with a deep teal stone basin and countertop. I very much appreciate the slight lip detail (also seen in the Marie Flanigan sink) to limit water spill and run off. The coordinated marble frame around the mirror and lights is a nice touch to mimic the lines of the cabinet and tub in the foreground.

Raw-edge stone is still absolutely appropriate; Ursino Interiors masterfully uses the boulder effect to bring a rustic quality to a luxury space, juxtaposing polished brass and a metal window-frame shower stall.

Another beautiful example of the visual power of the stone basin vanity, this time in a refreshing spearmint, by Benjamin Vandiver.

Wall-to-wall installs don’t get to have all the fun. What a compact yet powerful statement this stone sink makes in a bathroom by Zoe Feldman.

Bathroom “Islands”

Bringing up the rear of our trends list today is what I’m affectionately coining the bathroom “island.” Perhaps there is a more technical and accurate name for this, but I haven’t found it. Basically, what I mean by bathroom island is a freestanding unit that houses a key bathroom fixture, such as sinks or a shower.

Case in point, this floating vanity (note the fluted glass! and the stone basins!) in a space by Australian firm Se Déa. In these types of installations, the mirror is most often supported by a metal structure attached to both the island and the ceiling, which can free up valuable wall space and take advantage of positioning that otherwise wouldn’t be possible. Of course, you’d need to run plumbing through the middle of the room rather than along the perimeter.

Another one by Caprini & Pellerin that this time showcases an unusual shower island. It’s quite a cool concept, and the center placement in the room opens up the walls to added storage, display space, and a separate vanity space.

I found this opulent bathroom design via Belgian interior architect Wouter Tousseyn. I’m fairly certain it’s a rendering, but I wanted to include it as another visual study of the sink island, as this angle helps you to see the practicality of a double-sided floating vanity, which can be used from either side by multiple people.

Pierce & Ward show that the use of a floating bathroom fixture doesn’t have to be one-note, either. Here, they’ve adjoined the sinks and cabinetry to a large soaking tub.

And finally, proof that it doesn’t have to be this grand thing, either. By LA. M Studio, back-to-back sinks in a narrow cube-like island turn open floor space into a memorable design moment.

So now we’ve reached the end, and I have fully exhausted my ability to say another word about a bathroom. After all, how many synonyms can one find for the words sink, bathroom, tub, tile, and the like? I may have gone against my journalist instincts to say the same thing over and over again, but I hope you’ll forgive me and were too focused on the expertly designed bathing spaces to notice.

If you love color as much as I do, buckle up, because today, we’re talking color trends 2026 in interior design. Spoiler: There aren’t many drastic moves from the last time we talked about this, really. Millennial gray isn’t back (yet), cool whites haven’t taken over, and orange is still a bit fringe. But many of the shades we talked about last year are still very much on trend for this year…with a few additional surprises.

After consulting fashion trends, trend authorities such as WGSN and Pantone—yeah, even after that Cloud Dancer debacle—and digging deep into my own intuition based on my observations of designers’ work and retail product offerings, I’ve come up with seven colors I feel strongly are already impacting or about to impact how we decorate our homes.

Before diving in, you know I always have an aside. Scrolling through the images I collected made me stop and admire in total awe the absolute treasure trove of beauty we have at our constant disposal. Trendy or not, it’s like…WOW. There is so much to take in all the time that it’s easy to take it for granted, but for just a moment, let’s pause and be in wonder of just how many gorgeous and unique homes and rooms we get to peer into on the daily.

Alright! Time to admire some colors, shall we?

Color Trend #1: Ice Blue

Let’s start this list off with a color family that is as dependable as water boiling at 212 degrees Fahrenheit: Blue. This cool hue manages to present itself over and over again in different iterations with every new trend wave; last year, it showed up as an icy iteration, and that same ice blue is still ahead of the pack. I personally think it’s a fantastic palate (and palette) cleanser as an addition to all those deep, moody reds and browns we’ve been seeing, but more on that later on the list, so keep scrolling. Icy blue isn’t overly milky or saturated like other denim or Swedish blues that have been popular for the last decade. It’s crisp, clear, frosty, and pale.

James Huniford used an icy blue velvet sofa as the bright point in the otherwise earthy room he designed for the Kids Bay Showhouse last year, featured on Domino. If you leaned hard into the warm neutral trend and want to inject a little extra oomph now, misty blue is a great way to do that without things feeling overly colorful.

Case in point: This large room-scaled cabinet unit in a fairly neutral room. It’s such a wonderful way to use a color in a very large way that doesn’t feel overly burdensome or heavy.

Over a decade ago, I painted my bedroom a similar barely-there blue (with enough depth that it doesn’t feel like it belongs in a toddler’s nursery) and proceeded to recommend it to everyone close to me to the point that I made them feel like there was no other choice. As it happens, I moved on from the color, but it’s back, baby, as seen in this lovely and fresh space by Kerv Interiors. (Be sure to scroll through to get to more images of the bedroom it was used in and all the fun colors paired with it!)

First, scroll to the second image. Okay, now I can talk. Using ice blue in small but punchy moments like a pendant, sconce, or even piping on upholstery or soft goods is a fun and unexpected way to bring in this color. Another inspiring takeaway from this project by Alice Grace is how utterly delightful this cool blue looks with cherry red (and khaki, which is a trend further down on our list!).

Icy blue has been increasingly paired with burgundy; in fact, that combo is absolutely everywhere right now, like the previous one I mentioned, but with some more gravitas. It really does a great job of lifting up dense shades, not to mention it feels retro (like the vintage bathroom above shared by House of Moore Design) yet timeless.

Color Trend #2: Teal

This is not the first time I’ve called out teal as a color to watch (you might recall this article, and even here where I mentioned it, as well), so you know I’m serious about it. I’m not the only one, either. WGNS, an international trend forecasting company, named “Transformative Teal” the color of the year for 2026. I personally think, after years of milky and cottage-y versions of blue and green, we’re open again to move complex shades of those colors. Like both blue and green? Then BOOM, Teal knocks them out in one single dramatic punch.

The more I see designers use a color in more permanent applications, such as tile, the more I know it’s going to have lasting power. Case in point, this sweet little bathroom above by Bright Design Lab.

Designer Robert Stilin celebrated the color in this beautiful home that was featured in Architectural Digest. Something in this first photo that I want to call out is how radiant teal looks in natural light. It’s one of those hues that plays as nicely in a light and airy space as it does in something moody with limited lighting. And it practically begs to be on a material or surface that has some sheen.

When I worked at a furniture company after my EHD days, I was shocked that a peacock blue similar to the beautiful velvet above (a space by designer Mimi Shin) was one of our most selected fabrics. It held rank in the top three, sometimes even right at the apex of the list, along with gray and beige. Which makes me think, perhaps teal is just one of those colors that is always with us, whether it’s part of the zeitgeist or not. That said, it’s definitely part of it now and will be for the foreseeable future, IMHO.

A bathroom fixture such as this sink above in a bathroom by Sophie Rowell of Cote de Folk feels like a firmly cemented approval of teal. Could you swap it out? Sure, but chances are, you’re in it for the long haul with this. It’s a good thing, it’s absolutely marvelous and would make anyone stop and stare for a moment when they entered the space.

Color Trend #3: Amber (A.K.A. Burnt Caramel)

I may have amber down at number three, but TBH, it’s one of the top color trends I’m seeing, especially in bathroom design—which I’ll be covering more in depth next week, so stay tuned for that. But yes, amber, or burnt caramel as I’ve been seeing it called in some places, is absolutely everywhere. It’s a rich, unctuous throuple marriage between rust and mustard (which both had their heyday a few years ago), as well as brown. Some iterations of amber are a bit more yellow, while others are a bit more terracotta brown, but anywhere it lands, it’s earthy but fashionable.

As mentioned, amber bathroom tiles are *the* material choice of the moment in that space, specifically of the zellige variety. I love how designer Alisa MacConnell paired it with buttery yellow walls and bright brass to keep the jewel tone feeling fresh instead of dour.

I think the color of this sofa and the walls (in a room by designer Hugo Toro) are kiiiind of up for debate, but I’m including it in the burnt caramel camp anyway. The beauty of this color is that it’s very much a warm neutral but still feels like a color-color. If you’re scared of color or don’t really know how to use it, amber or burnt caramel is a great gateway.

I just need a moment to take in this gorgeous tile backdrop in a space by Studio Mountain (the tile is by BDDW, a favorite of mine and EHD as a whole). I’m a sucker for a scenic tile, which we normally see in Delft blue and white, but in mustardy amber, it’s so unusual and special.

Chocolate brown upholstery was all the rage last year, and while it’s still very much trending, a less dense or heavy option is a deeper amber. Isn’t it just delicious on this sofa and basically on every surface of this room by Katie Harbison?

Color Trend #4: Chartreuse

Slap my knee and call me surprised because chartreuse snuck up on me. Really, it shouldn’t have, being that both yellow and warm-toned grassy greens have been climbing the popularity charts over the last year. But chartreuse? That one snuck up on me. Like a new word you’re hearing for the first time, you start to hear it everywhere; this acid greenish yellow has been very much the same for me.

What’s funny, though, is the last time icy blue and chocolate brown were on trend for our homes, chartreuse was also popping off. Curious how that happens, but also, everything has a season and a cycle, and nothing is new under the sun.

Kendall Jenner’s home by Heidi Caillier was the home tour heard around the internet. If you haven’t seen it, you probably have and just haven’t realized. The image above shows Jenner’s camper, which Caillier also designed. You’ll see this limey chartreuse here as a call back to other spaces inside the actual home, such as the bathroom below:

Caillier used a chartreuse Zia Tile zellige to wake up all the dark, natural wood tones in the cabin-like bathroom above. A soft neutral or even a burgundy or blue would have been beautiful, but the tart green takes on a whole new life and flavor, similar to squeezing a lime over your tacos. They’d be delicious without it, but with it, they’re exactly as they should be.

I contemplated not including this photo because the upholstery isn’t necessarily as punchy as chartreuse, but the olive green and golden yellows come together in a similar way for my eye, so here it is for your enjoyment. Cortney Bishop masterfully brings the warm palette together with cognacs, bronze-like wood tones, and natural materials.

Electric Bowery, shot by Laure Joliet, is quickly becoming one of my newest sources for fresh inspiration. They use color in a way that feels natural, though, like you’ll see in the next project, they also totally go for it. But here, a just-barely chartreuse sofa is absolutely wonderful paired with ambers, caramels, browns, and a hit of cobalt blue.

Speaking of Electric Bowery, this dining room showcases my favorite way to use color: pick complementary hues but shift them a bit. Instead of traditional red and green, the chartreuse curtains and wall check the green box, while the brick-toned leather chairs carry the weight for red. It works because that’s simply the science of color, but also looks interesting and unexpected because there are some liberties being taken.

Color Trend #5: Burgundy/Oxblood

Chartreuse may have crept up on me, but oxblood (or burgundy or maroon) sure didn’t. It’s been one of the hottest colors in both home and fashion for the better part of last year, and for me personally, it’s a long-held favorite of mine. It’s such a statement when you use it to paint cabinetry, unapologetic on soft goods and walls, and downright luxurious on stone surfaces for kitchens and bathrooms. If we’re lucky, this one will be around for some time.

Electric Bowery, I just can’t quit you! Pairing a deep red with dark wood tones is such a gorgeous way of bringing down the visual noise of a burgundy. Keep the contrast low with creamy highlights instead of going for something overly white as a paint companion.

Daring to use a dramatic color in a small bathroom—such as the one above by Ainsley Brookins Design—is the design tale as old as time, and burgundy really shines in this application. On the walls, on fixtures, in tiles, with stone…it doesn’t matter how you bring it in, the result is always going to be lush, sumptuous, and grandiose, no matter the scale.

Dabito of Old Brand New is a master of #sorrynotsorry color use. This amount of non-neutrals is not for everyone, or even most, but it’s so fun to study and pull from to use in a way you feel most comfortable. I’d never think to pair maroon walls with a rusty brown rug, but it totally works, with a soft green as the bridge.

Using oxblood in conjunction with neutral woods, and black and white—like Nuova Home did above—renders something very high-end and easy to digest. A big thumbs up for the color drench on the desk area (between the desk, chair, and lamp).

Give me a home library or den, and I’ll dive headfirst into a color like this on all surfaces, as Marie Flanigan Interiors did here. Note her use of sheens to really bring out the character of the wine-like shade.

Color Trend #6: Plum

A hop, skip, and (short) jump on the color wheel from burgundy will give you plum. This cooler-toned cousin of red (or warmer-toned cousin of purple, depending on how you’re looking at it) is more playful and youthful than oxblood, but just as impactful. There’s something about aubergine that always feels like such a risk, but when you pull it off, it has huge rewards. And now that I think about it, plum is kind of like the teal of this side of the color wheel—a hybrid of two colors with its own very distinct personality.

Jase Sullivan, I applaud you. The use of plum on this dresser (and the wallpaper) is remarkable, particularly when used in tandem with the cobalt blue lamp and the earthy green door. And like any other jewel tone, just add neutrals and natural textures to keep things feeling grounded.

An oldie by a goodie from designer Zoe Feldman. I’ve admired this dining room for years, stopping every time it hits my feed. It strikes this very difficult balance of being elegant and “fancy” but still casual, welcoming, and interesting. I think the plum color on the walls, trim, and wallpaper plays a big role in that successful balance.

Another one from Zoe Feldman Design. As you can see, plum is hugely successful with a variety of green and other warm neutrals. Throw in some pink or fuchsia, and you have a well-rounded palate that’s full of intrigue, friendliness, and fun.

Duelle Studio via Domino shows how plum can transform from grounded and serious to joyful and springy with the addition of lilac, blush, and peach.

I mean, what’s not to love about this bathroom by AM Interior Design? A plum toile? Yes, please!

Natalie Myers is so good at modern California cool, using color in a very deliberate way. Mixing that plum hex ground with a chalky mauve-meets-lilac cabinet feels contemporary and unexpected.

Color Trend #7: Khaki

For anyone reading here waiting for something less in-your-face, I’m happy to tell you that we’re rounding out our list with khaki. Look, I wasn’t that excited about it when I first read about it, probably just because the name “khaki” itself is so blah, but khaki is here, and honestly, it’s the absolutely perfect companion to almost every other saturated shade in our lineup. It’s the color that’s quietly been in the background for a while, often being confused with mushroom, or taupe, or beige, or cream. But no, khaki has a depth to it that all those others fall just short of. It’s all those colors combined with just enough yellow and green in it to make it interesting.

Heidi Caillier Design has been on this khaki game for years. It’s her base for almost everything if you go back and look through her work. And now I understand why. It gives brown without the heaviness, cream but with more personality, and whispers while taking up space. Honestly, it may be the ideal neutral.

Another one by Heidi Cailier, styled by Mieke Ten Have. The khaki print of the wallpaper works so well with the putty gray-green trim and all the rich wood tones and limestone floor.

And finally, I showed this space by Alice Grace as an example of icy blue, but it’s coming back around for its khaki-colored cabinetry. Bonus points for its surprise blue interior (you can see on the eighth slide!).

We thought that it was only right to have our first official post of the year be one of the most beloved…our annual kitchen trends post. I’m getting chills as I type these words! It’s a new year, a renewed sense that things can be better and hopefully more beautiful. And for some of you lucky readers, a bit of that beauty may be coming from a kitchen remodel or even a light refresh. That’s where this post can actually be helpful. Though, if you are simply looking for general design news, that’s just as valid:) Everyone is welcome. I also feel inclined to say that while this is labeled as a “trend post,” we focus on design ideas that we love and don’t think will be “out” in a few years. Plus, regardless of how “2026” something may be, if it’s done well, it will look awesome forever. So without further ado, welcome to EHD’s 2026 Kitchen Trends Picks…

Stainless Steel Kitchens (And Accents)

We have talked about this one in the past, but now more than ever, I am CONVINCED we will see stainless steel kitchens everywhere this year and beyond. And as you can see above and below, these kitchens are not cold, sterile designs. They are chic, fresh, and mixed with beautiful materials. I mean, burlwood walls, matte stainless steel cabinets, and marble tiled checkered floors??! Not to mention that incredible chandelier, which may be a new goal for my kitchen. LA.M Studio created such a stunning space.

This unreal kitchen by Keep Studio completely flips the “hide your appliances” on its head and takes it a step further. All of the appliances are stainless steel, which then match all of the stainless steel drawers. The mix of cool-toned wood and steel feels both unique and effortless. It’s impossible for this design not to crack open your brain and think of the possibilities of incorporating stainless steel in really unexpected ways.

Here’s another angle and a closer look at that incredible window. Wow, wow, wow. I also adore the curve of the corner cabinet and how it talks to the curve of the wall and high shelf.

Now, the great Sophie Rowell whose designs are cozy, unexpected, a little traditional yet playful, designed this wonderful kitchen above. She didn’t lean hard into the stainless steel vibe but did add that awesome modern backsplash. It adds a juicy amount of contrast to the overall style of the space, but also balances with the appliances. Maybe an additional “kitchen trend” is that stainless steel appliances are back!

This kitchen, which belonged to stylist Colin King, is now The Loft, Beni Rugs’ new space. The stainless steel really just comes in with the sink and appliances, but it shows how truly elevated and cozy it can look in a kitchen with the right materials designed with it. All that wood paneling is a beautiful contrast.

Tiled Cabana Stripes

This one may feel a little risky for some, but in the right home with the right design, it’s everything! Case in point, Leah Bradley’s California coastal home. Without the stripe pattern, this is a beautiful, very neutral kitchen. But WITH the tile, a bold yet soft injection of energy is instantly felt.

Color and tone are major factors in this design working. The soft colors not only flow with the tones of the rest of the kitchen but also with the vibe of the area. Coastal, beachy, and fun. This was a risk that couldn’t have paid off more.

I LOVE this kitchen. I also know I’m stretching it a little with the definition of cabana stripes, but it’s what I immediately thought when I saw this photo. I also love that you still get the impact of the look without needing to go for longer stripes.

So, as opposed to the lighter colors with long stripes of the first kitchen, here, White Studio & Co Interior Design used darker colors with a “short stripe” (or so that’s how it feels to me:)). Oh, and did you notice the stainless steel sink and chrome stools??

Another one for the short stripes! I love this small but massively impactful design choice Abbie Naber made in this kitchen. It just takes it to the next level visually. It’s also a great reminder that tile accents can be taken into dining spaces, especially in an open concept.

Here’s a closer look at the detailing on the island. It’s not a classic, two solid colored tile combo. See that little diagonal? Just so special.

Now, look at this kitchen render! That short backsplash is another great way to have that pop of pattern, even if you don’t want to go all the way up the wall. It’s so cool and fresh, and with that blue cabinet and shelf, I couldn’t love it more. Also, while this isn’t a completed, photographed space, I do think renders are a VERY good indicator of trends. It’s what designers are imagining in their ideal scenario:)

I had to include this one because it was a different take and looks beautiful. Vaughan Design & Development designed a perfect kitchen and then made it even better with that horizontal stripe on the backsplash. What makes it great (and all of these stripes in this section) is that they are made with larger tiles and not those mini ones (you know which ones I mean). These are intentional and special, and I’m excited to see more of them this year!

Tonal Wood Hardware

Tonal wood hardware is making itself known, even if it matches perfectly with the wood cabinets:) Workstead can do no wrong in my book, and this kitchen is yet another example. There are a million details I love, but a big one is those round wood knobs. So simple but (say it with me), so special.

See?! It doesn’t hurt that the wood is insanely gorgeous.

I believe there has yet to be a January kitchen trends post (at least that I have done) that hasn’t included Shapeless Studio. Their work is, well, always inspiring, and these wooden custom-designed handles are just that. White oak, like the cabinets, and strong enough to be appliance pulls too!

Want to know a really fun fact? Those wood cabinets you’re looking at are actually covered with contact paper! Drew is an unbelievably designer/DIYer, so no shock that it turned out beautiful. But what I also loved was that he used real wood DIY handles to really sell the whole “real” wood look.

So this kitchen went from a bit cold and without a ton of personality to a beautiful, warm, renter-friendly dream. The wood on wood look really takes the space to a very elevated level:)

I also think this is a trend that’s extremely possible to easily incorporate into your existing wood cabinet kitchen. No reno necessary! Just find the right wood match hardware, and you are set.

Flat Panel Cabinet Fronts

Shaker and micro Shaker cabinet fronts have been king for years now, but I think that flat panels are about to officially take over. That’s not to say we still don’t LOVE shakers and think they are beautiful (because they are). But baby, things are shifting. Let’s take this unreal kitchen by Katy Popple Design. Flat panel fronts with a mix of really awesome hardware. It’s clean, lets the materials and colors shine, and feels modern in the best way. Actually, if you look at all of the kitchens in this post, almost all of them have flat panel cabinet fronts. Jussssst saying.

Here is another dream kitchen by Rebecca Zajac that’s more modern organic, and those flat fronts are perfect. It’s so clean to the eye and lets the materials really sing. I mean that stone is unreal!

In case you wanted more proof of how beautiful they are…

…and another. But this example shows a more modern traditional look (love the two tones!). It’s also proof that Shaker isn’t the only “traditional” option.

For my final example in this category, this one offers a slight twist. From what I’ve seen, most flat fronts are flush to the framing. The wood ones in this space are slightly set back, which I also love. A teeny detail that makes them a little different from the stainless steel ones. Intentional and interesting. No notes, this kitchen by Monika Michalowska is perfect.

Creamy Tiles

Another designer that I always look to for trends, Nina Farmer. Her style is so classic, but is always special and layered. So much soul in every space. But with this space, we are focusing our attention on those creamy wall tiles. We love an all-bright-white in the right space, but the softness of a cream or warm beige is like a hug for the eyes. This kitchen feels just like that – warm, beautiful, and just the right amount of color.

Now, the great Mandy Cheng used very similar, if not the same, Zellige tiles as Nina, and it’s just as warm but in a completely different way. The power of design!! Along with the live-edge wood shelves, the tiles soften the white cabinets, stainless steel accents (another example!), and the black stone island.

It’s that seemingly small choice of choosing white versus cream/beige that can make the biggest impact.

While Zellige is still one of the major players in home tile, this cream-toned brick that Ome Dezin chose for this kitchen is so awesome. Almost a warm brutalism style that’s warmed up even more by that unreal dark cabinetry and modern island. Their work is always so exciting and beautiful.

Green Countertops

It can feel a little strange using our own work in a trend post, but hey, green stone countertops are absolutely going to be a major player in 2026. I mean, it’s already happening! Choosing a colorful stone can feel like a huge risk because stone and fabrication aren’t cheap (or returnable). But green is a color that’s also more or less a neutral depending on the tone chosen. It goes with so much and is visually calming. Would this kitchen have been pretty with a white stone? Yes. Is it far more interesting and beautiful with the green? I think, YES.

Here is a render by Finch studio that I really love. It’s very modern, and at first glance, the blue tiled island is what you notice. But then your eyes move to the green countertop, and it’s a wow. So interesting but quiet, and that light green with the mid-toned warm wood is perfection.

But you can also go much darker, as a slight alternative to black, like Electric Bowery beautifully did.

Or go for a tonal style like the great Heidi Caillier chose to do. I just love the green on green look.

There was a debate on whether Rosso Levanto marble(red marble) was on trend, and I couldn’t find it in enough kitchens. I absolutely think yes for smaller areas like bathrooms and pieces of furniture like accent tables, but for kitchens, I’m not totally convinced yet. I feel sure about green, but will happily be wrong for red:) I guess only time will tell. Oh, and we’re definitely keeping our eyes on butler pantries, too. We’ll check back in for our midyear kitchen trends report.

Predicting design trends is something that is extremely fun, so we really love doing it. But just because it’s fun doesn’t mean we don’t take it seriously. There’s not a secret magic ball; instead, simply a total love/obsession with design, constantly looking and examining A LOT of spaces on every platform. Does every single trend we talk about “go viral”? No. But I’d say we are in the green overall:) So today I thought it would be interesting to a bunch of trends we talked about and see what we were right about and what didn’t take off in the way we thought it would. I’d say overall we are in the green, but let’s go through most of the ones we predicted, and we can all see where we landed for 2025! P.S. get ready for A LOT of eye candy:)

Kitchen Trends

Dark Beige

Dark beige was a color I predicted for this year, and I have to say I’m still seeing it a lot (as shown above!). I’m both happy because who doesn’t love to be right? Ha. But also not surprised because it’s a moody neutral color that adds a lot of visual depth and warmth.

Colorful Stained Wood

YES, YES, YES! This might be one of the strongest trends that felt “new” this past year. I saw them mostly in higher-end renovations, but far more than in past years. It’s only a matter of time till all of us will have easier access. It’s funny because before this year, I wouldn’t have thought I’d love this style as much as I do, but so many designers are using colorful stained wood in such beautiful and elevated ways that I am so on board. Goes to show there’s a great version of practically anything you can imagine.

Colorful Window Trim

I’d say this is a kinda. The design world is still very much in the cozy elevated cottage vibes, and what’s more charming, regardless of style, than a colorful window trim? But also, I wouldn’t say that my feeds were as filled with colorful window trims in kitchens as I thought they’d be. However, I don’t think this trend was exclusive to kitchens, and designers have also been adding this element to lots of different kinds of spaces.

Bold Cabinet Interior Colors

This is another “sort of”. There are plenty of designers who add this element to an interior cabinet, and it’s such a wonderful surprise! Very much a sign that whoever designed the home really loves/cares about the details. So it was around, but not in a huge way. I’d happily see more in 2026.

Red Marble

Definitely on trend this past year, but I oddly had a difficult time finding photos to prove it in kitchens (hence the bathroom, which is more of where I think it was on trend). This stone was also used a fair amount in pieces like accent tables. Remember Mal’s coffee table? I think we will see more of it in 2026, but there’s actually another color that’s hitting much harder that we’ll talk about in January:)

Dark Wood Cabinetry & Paneling

This is a soft yes. There were way more dark wood kitchens than I have felt in past years, but I think dark painted kitchens (like a deep burgundy) may have surpassed wood. Dark wood islands, however, were definitely very popular this year! A dark walnut is just so elegant and classic that you really can’t go wrong with it.

Double Bullnose Counter Edges

When I first saw that we called this trend this year, I was unsure if it was a big contender, but I stand corrected! I think I may have found even more photos than I have above. So this is officially a big, YES. I don’t know the fabrication cost, but if you can swing it, it’s a stunning detail that’s cool and interesting but not too “trendy”. I even love that the wood island, in the last photo, looks like it has the double bullnose counter edge.

Sculleries

I believe it was Arlyn who called the scullery trend, and she was right. It’s one of those additions that requires some space. Although the second photo is on the smaller side, which is nice, because it’s not like you need a huge home to create this kind of area. I feel like this is also an example of people leaning away from open concept floor plans. Can’t wait to see how this shakes out next year!

Rounded Cabinets

While I LOVE rounded cabinets, I don’t think it was in its trend prime this past year. I think we say far more rounded-edged islands instead. I’m sure the price tag for those types of custom cabinets is also quite high, which may have been a factor. I’m still keeping my eye out.

Bathroom Trends

Moody Boutique Hotel

Yes! The internet is chock full of amazing, moody bathrooms that are beyond boutique hotel quality. The rich tones, the mix of textured materials, what’s not to love? I very much hope that we see many more next year.

Raw Edge Vanity And White Plumbing Fixtures

These two trends sadly didn’t take off despite both being so cool. They are fairly specific, at least for now, and I’m sure a raw-edge vanity can’t be cheap. As for white plumbing, I really couldn’t find a recent example, and that’s likely because people are still very attached to classic metals (aside from black). So, unless you want a very modern bathroom, white likely still needs time to break through to the mainstream.

Decor Trends

Color Drenching

Well, this is DUH. Color drenching was everywhere this year, and we loved it. It’s so exciting to look at such colorful rooms, and with the right colors can be soothing or really energy-inducing. I hope this lives on for many years so we can all stare at the amazing combos and tones these extremely talented designers choose.

Browns

Pantone got it kinda right for 2025 with their choice of brown, Mocha Mousse. However, warm, rich, and delicious browns were more of the stars. So the color brown was absolutely on trend for 2025, and we don’t see it slowing down. I mean, when done well, it’s a total classic!

Burgundys

Do I even need to say it? Yes, burgundy could have easily been the color of the year. You couldn’t open your feed or look at a magazine with this incredible color staring at you in the face. Was anyone made about it? They better not have been. I also don’t think this beautiful color is going anywhere anytime soon.

Light Blue

Another HUGE hit in 2025 that I unexpectedly loved! It’s such a joyful color that really pops. Even for me, I had categorized it as a “little kid” color, but the way designers used it this past year, I am so in. It’s chic, elevated, yet playful. I even almost chose light blue curtains for my bedroom!

Curtains As “Doors”

Eh, yes and no with this one. Not a huge trend for this past year, but when done, they are done so beautifully. I think we can take it as a good reminder that it’s an awesome option when you can’t have or don’t want an actual door:)

Glass Chandelieres/Sconces

Yes! Sure, these are all STUNNING and grand examples, but even in less extravagant homes, cool and beautiful light fixtures were being added in. I’m actually working on a project now where we are trying to find some glass sconces that work:)

Lacquer & High Gloss Finishes

I think mostly “ish,” but it’s still on the rise. I mean, Heidi Caillier laucuered two ceilings, and they look awesome (only one shown above). So I think let’s keep an eye out for this one for 2026 too.

Oversized Lighting and Wallpaper Borders

Here were two misses, I think. Both oversized lighting and wallpaper borders are happening, but really not any more than they were before. I couldn’t love an oversized lamp more, so I will always be rooting for that trend:)

Other

Checkerboard Tile

I know some people feel that checked anything is on its way out, but I love it, and so did A LOT of designers this year, especially with tile. When done in a way that feels true to the space, I think it’s a classic! So yes, this was definitely a trend this year, and I personally wouldn’t mind if it continued.

Regency Minimalism

This last trend was one that I called out this past June, and I think it’s a 50/50. Designers like Marco Zamora are very much on board, but it’s not ALL over the internet yet. Hey, maybe next year. It’s beautiful and cool, and I would love to see more.

For obvious reasons, we write a lot about interior design and home decorating trends. But sometimes, we come across moments and concepts we think are worth exploring that aren’t necessarily en masse the way a “trend” is. For instance (and a bit of a spoiler alert): Swans in home decor are popping up a lot, but by no means do I think that large majestic birds are “happening.” They’re just a stylistic choice someone chooses because they love it. The same goes for the color pink right now. Blush, dusty mauve, and fleshy peach were never out of style—imho, no color is ever obsolete if used in a fresh way—but more and more, I’m seeing designers go all-in on rose.

So, today, I’m diving into five non-trends that I just plain and simply think are fun happenings in the design world worth bringing to your attention. No pomp; no circumstance; no large declarations. Just “Hey, watcha think about this?” conversations.

#1: Blue Marble Countertops

Blue marble tends to come off a bit dated when it has the wrong edge finish and in a kitchen that feels overly fussy. It was a thing in custom kitchens in the early 1900s, then again in the ’70s and ’80s, and is definitely making a strong comeback recently, though still quite niche.

Kate Hudson famously picked a vibrant blue, heavily veined marble for the kitchen she renovated in her current home, which also happens to have been her childhood residence. People either love it or hate it, with some critics saying it looks like a cheap pool liner. While it’s not really something I would pick for myself, maybe ever (it’s just not my preference for veining style), I’m all for *her* loving it.

Here is the kitchen (above) that she did in collaboration with Cafe Appliances, which ran in Architectural Digest. Bright white and true blue is a bit high-contrast for my liking, but it’s a classic combination, so while it seems pretty bold, it is tried-and-true to say the least.

This deeper, more gray-blue countertop—the same kitchen from the opening image, a design by Guild Anderson—is more in line with my personal taste. Same result, in that it feels both vintage and forward at the same time, but more palatable and low-key.

A marble with tons of movement mixed with a strong wood grain is hard to pull off, but there is something very cozy and rustic about this kitchen, by Eleanor Roper Interiors.

Moving into the bathroom, a deeper blue marble is easier to work with because you only need a little bit due to the smaller space. I especially love it in a color-drench aesthetic, such as the powder bath above by Decus Interiors.

Coe Mudford Interior Design turned a simple fireplace wall into the star of the room with this soft blue marble slab design. In a traditional white-and-grey marble, for instance, it would have been beautiful but expected, and this choice adds just enough color to be interesting without being pushy.

This bathroom shared by Starel Stones notes that it uses blue wave marble, resulting in a room that looks like you’re floating in the clouds (or sea). I’m transfixed, honestly.

A blue lapis marble is absolutely stunning in this petite modern bathroom by Hunt and Design. Note that they took it above the arch of the mirror to great result.

#2: Saltillo Floor Tiles

In general, welcoming, character-filled interiors and architecture are increasingly desirable, as compared to stark or pristine contemporary homes. And with that, we’re seeing warmer colors and materials more and more. One in particular I’ve been eyeing is Saltillo tiles. Now, you may see what I’ve posted below and think “oh, terra cotta!” but well…not exactly. All Saltillo tiles are terra cotta, but not all terra cotta is Saltillo.

Saltillo needs to be made in Coahuila, Mexico (the capital city is Saltillo) using old-world, hand-made techniques. It’s very durable, naturally slip-resistant, and affordable at around $5 to $6 per square foot, installed. The only downside is that, since it’s a natural, unglazed material, it needs to be resealed every few years, depending on foot traffic.

I love that the designer (Terramar Interiors) here retained the original Saltillo floors in the bedroom that adjoins this bathroom suite, and made them feel purposeful and fresh by bringing in a similarly toned floor in a star and cross brick pattern.

The Saltillo tiles we typically see are square in varying sizes with thick grout lines between them, but this brick-shaped Saltillo from Tiles of Ezra reads way more modern, paired with crisp white walls, a sleek gray pedestal(ish) sink, and ribbed aqua glass.

While this is technically red cotto from Zia Tile, I wanted to show it because we don’t typically see an organic, hand-made floor like this with a modern kitchen like the above by Laun Studio. It’s a good reminder that just because you’re renovating doesn’t mean you always have to tear out everything. Sometimes old lends some gravitas to new.

Saltillo works especially well in hacienda- or mission-style homes. I love it with creamy plaster walls and architectural features like this fireplace in a home by Intimate Living Interiors.

These floors are fantastic choices for hard-working rooms like the kitchen and bathroom due to their durability, which comes from the fact that Saltillo tiles are typically quite thick (about 3/4-inch) and fired at very high temperatures.

Oooh, a picket design! The listing for this home notes that this style is rare, which is unfortunate because it’s so lovely.

#3: Pink Top-To-Bottom

Unexpected red. Burgundy. Brown. Now…pink! Of course, all of those colors are different, but they do live in the same world of warm, rich red undertones. Soft, blushy pinks are popping up everywhere I look, particularly in bathrooms, though it’s a gorgeous, nearly neutral hue for any living space, really.

I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw this bathroom Heidi Caillier recently shared, mostly due to that gorgeous built-in cabinet, but also because the color palette just glows.

When I said above that a satiny pink like this bathroom by Uns Hobbs Interior is basically a neutral, what I meant is that it works so well with almost any color. Green? Yes! Brown? Of course. Purple or white or blue or red? God, yes! Going to bookmark Farrow & Ball Templeton Pink for a future room…

I mean, who doesn’t want a glossy pink kitchen in Paris? Pairing a sweet, fleshy pink like this with other tan surfaces keeps the color from leaning too saccharin. (Be sure to click through to see the pink stone fireplace surround, too!!)

Look, I love a color-drenched room like the next person, but at times, it can feel like the walls are caving in on you if things are too dark. But in a dusty pink, it still feels happy, intentional, and dramatic.

#4: Chintz

Ah chintz. I’ve long had a hate-hate relationship with this fuddy-duddy floral. HOWEVER, it’s actually a fascinating fabric that has grown on me. To be specific, chintz fabric is a plain weave cotton that has a glaze or sheen and typically features colorful, repeating floral patterns. It was originally created and produced in India, and after being imported into Europe, it was banned by England and France because it was too popular and threatened their domestic fabric.

The fabric and pattern is niche and not for everyone, but I’ve grown to appreciate it on a skirted sofa, fringed ottoman, or ruffled pillow in a room I’d love to stay in for the weekend (though not necessarily live in).

I mean, Heidi Caillier makes anything and everything look good, and she almost has me convinced I need a chintz-covered roll-arm sofa. For me, it works because it’s expertly blended with other less frilly patterns and furniture silhouettes.

There has been a collective obsession with English interiors for the last five or more years, and a chintzy rose-printed sofa feels perfectly at the center of this design style. Note the pairing with the kilim rug and the geometric ottoman fabric.

Chintz doesn’t have to be heavy-handed. It can also be soft and more subtle, like the Colefax & Fowler Fuchsia fabric used on the armchairs above in the home of Emma Sherlock.

Another skirted armchair, this time by A Glass of Bovino, who loves chintz so much, you can find it in one form or another across her whole beautiful and elegant home.

Not brave enough to go with a floral-patterned sofa? Stick to a solid but then have some fun on your ottoman, perchance with a chintz and fringe? Uns Hobbs Interiors creates another interesting, layered room with that exact technique.

#5: Swans

Okay, hear me out…swans…I saw a lot of articles last summer about TikTok’s “swancore,” and I rolled my eyes. Any word that is affixed to “core” will have that effect on me, but what I thought was a quick passing fad maybe has some staying power?

I’ve written about my love for a little whimsy in our homes, and this fits squarely into that narrative, but remember: A little goes a long way. Try a single vintage brass swan planter. Or a ceramic swan pitcher. Feeling frisky? Put a small swan figurine on a bookshelf. Let’s look at some examples.

Architectural Digest wrote about swans and their return on the home scene just a week or so ago, and I bookmarked it even before locking in what motifs I wanted to write about for this article. It’s a little wild, fun, and frankly, kind of weird (but in a good way…most times).

Now this is just lovely. I’m nearly convinced I now need to find a vintage brass swan in some form or another…particularly a planter-slash-vase.

It’s hard to see this far away, but that brass planter on top of the pink book is indeed a swan. It looks practically demure next to the collection of hands, creepy faces, and vintage oil portraits of bearded men.

A swan oil painting or print is a gentle bridge into swan decor. I don’t have the exact link to the one above, but this one is super close.

Matilda Goad is my quirky, eclectic decor idol. She has so much fun with her home that it would make a serial sad-beiger question their commitment to solely creamy whites. I can’t take my eyes off the swan on the top middle shelf…can you?

Maison Balzac has some of my dream too-beautiful-to-use table linens, and this is the first I’m seeing this swan napkin. I’ve gotta say…it’s so regal and lovely and just unusual enough without scaring anyone off.

I have loved Nina Campbell’s Swan Lake wallpaper since maybe…2011? That’s nearly 15 years, people, and it never gets old to me. So I guess the girl who rolled her eyes at “swancore” is a bit of a hypocrite, hm? (She says to herself…)

Well, that was fun. Honestly, I much prefer talking about interesting things on our radar that we just want to bounce around in our minds or chew on a little bit, rather than a deep dive into a specific trend that we have to decide how we feel about it. Most of these I shared today might never find a home in my home, but it’s a good exercise to mentally try them on to see how far you can push yourself (or not).

First came stainless steel high-end ranges (think Wolf and Viking) in luxury kitchens. Then came the UK and European imports such as Bertazzoni, AGA, La Cornue, and Lacanche. These pastel- and jewel-toned beauties, which can be priced anywhere from $7,000 upwards of $25,000 (or more depending on size), have been the crown jewel of the custom kitchen for the better part of a decade. This kitchen trend is what I call the “statement range,” due to the fact that in a space where all other appliances are meant to be hidden behind cabinet panels, these are poised to be anything but meek and concealed.

Robin’s egg blue, burgundy (like Shavonda Gardner’s gorgeous kitchen above), black and brass (below, by U.S. company Big Chill), and beyond, these ranges have left both an impact on the design of our cookeries, and elevated our tolerance for risk-taking styles in a room that often shies away from breaking too far away from the safe crowd, mostly because it’s wildly expensive to correct if their freshness grows stale.

The gateway drug of a character-filled kitchen, statement ranges have opened the door for the statement fridge, which is perhaps one of the most exciting kitchen trends of the past year or two, imho. It’s interesting to see how this giant, necessary appliance has transformed from being as discrete as possible to stealing the stage.

While digging around for images to showcase and talk through here, I noticed three distinct “types” of statement fridges, each serving a style and budget range. We have the vintage-style fridge, the modern colorful fridge, and then, what is quickly emerging as a go-to move at the upper end of the spending spectrum, the freestanding furniture-style fridge.

Come with me to explore all three kinds.

The Vintage-Style Statement Fridge

It doesn’t matter where the aesthetic pendulum swings; there will always be those who prefer the nostalgic look of yesteryear (though it just so happens that traditional and cottage design has been very big for a while now). SMEG and Big Chill have ruled this market on the mainstream level for years and years, and for good reason: They are just so stinking cute. For color lovers, they are like a siren, hypnotizing us and luring us in with their pistachio greens and buttery yellows. For those that prefer something warm and neutral but not the same-same of everyone else, there’s creamy off-whites and blacks.

A black French door fridge with chunky brass hardware—by Big Chill Appliances—stands out in the classic kitchen of Amy Bowen of Porch and Vine. I think this color combo is a nice way to bring in a chiller of this style without it feeling cemented in any era.

Same fridge, different color, very different vibe. Sunday Supper Club Creative designed the wildly unique kitchen of Bri Emery of DesignLoveFest. I love the color blocking of the mint cabinetry next to the pistachio appliance so that it stands out and has its moment without too much contrast.

Here’s a very classic-looking fridge, again by Big Chill, in a lovely dark green. The chrome is a nice change from all the brass we’ve seen in our kitchens for 10-plus years. Of course, something this size isn’t sensible for most of us as a main fridge unless you live alone or don’t cook much, but it’s a fun option for a secondary fridge if you have a home with that square footage.

We love a cream SMEG around these parts (just ask Jess or Mallory). I especially like how it looks with warm, taupe cabinetry and rich wood tones, like in the kitchen above by Living a Wilder Life. This design of fridge works well for anyone who doesn’t want to burn counter space with a wide 36-inch fridge but still wants to set a vibe.

The Colorful Statement Fridge

Not after a fridge that looks like it could have held your jello mold for the neighborhood moon landing watch party? (Obviously, I’m saying that in jest because I love them.) Enter the modern colorful statement fridge.

Admittedly, I have never seen a commercial-style fridge like this one from True (or Sub-Zero, etc.) in any other color but stainless, so this was a surprise to me. But turns out, they exist! True can actually custom color-match any color you want, which I’m assuming is their answer to blending in with cabinetry, as these aren’t panel-ready friendly. But on the flip side, you can also pick a completely different color to have a little fun.

I know red and yellow can give serious Ronald McDonald vibes, but I do love a soft, mellow yellow paired with a warm brick red, like in this little pantry above by Logan Killen Interiors.

At Home with Ashley customized her Samsung Bespoke fridge with glossy blush panels. The nice thing about this specific fridge is that you can change the panels at any point if you want to swap out colors and finishes. While it’s still an expense, it’s easier to take a risk like having a pink appliance when you know you can walk it back fairly easily.

The “Undercover” Freestanding Cabinet Statement Fridge

Now we get to the new new of this category: The hidden-but-not-really fridge that’s so in your face, it doesn’t actually look like a fridge at all, but rather a giant armoire. And anyone who knows my writing knows how much I love an armoire.

The above and below images are all maybe overkill in that there are four photos, but I just wanted to show all aspects of its design (by Guild Anderson out of the UK). It’s so clever to have a fridge, freezer, and some cupboard/pantry storage all in one spot. The amount of walking I do in my fairly small kitchen between the fridge, my counters, back again, over to the pantry cabinet, back to the fridge…it’s pretty genius, or at the least very interesting to talk about.

It’s the only one I’ve ever seen made to look like it has glass doors with a fabric curtain. It’s very much hidden, but what a statement!

Here’s a smaller design by the same company (above). And now that I’m looking at it further, something like this, though custom and likely costly, is a great solution for a space where the refrigerator works best off to the side or on a free wall that doesn’t contain cabinetry.

This custom freestanding fridge and cupboard situation was cooked up by Blockhouse Build for Matilda Goad. It has both a retro feel with the exposed door hinges, but also “now” with its rounded design.

This gorgeous hand-painted piece, in the home of The House That Lars Built, may be one of the first of its kind I’ve ever seen. Anyone would be lucky to have a cabinet this beautiful, let alone it being their FRIDGE!

You can’t see the whole kitchen above (obviously), but it’s quite symmetrical, with another large built-in just like the one seen above on the other side. One is cabinetry, the other (this one, I believe) is the fridge and freezer. Sure, this is just the next evolution of integrated fridges, but the addition of decorative molding makes such an impact.

Even with lower ceilings, the armoire-esque fridge is stately and works. Vaughn Design & Development shared that they were looking to “hide” their fridge by actually making it stand out as a freestanding cabinet. Like hiding in plain sight.

That’s all I have for us today. I’m always intrigued by a design idea that takes a utilitarian item and makes it into the star of the room by thinking creatively (or just adding color). Fall is trend season. And while we’ve already chatted a bit about fall-specific trends (and followed that up with some supplemental shopping), I’m ready to look a bit more forward into next year and beyond. One of my favorite things to do as a design editor is to forecast, and, tooting my own horn, I happen to be pretty good at it. In my decade-plus of doing this work, I’ve pinpointed decor trends as far as a few years out, which frankly, feels very rewarding. I get that few have the bandwidth to hear about something that’s going to be huge—I swear!!—in 2029, so instead, I’ll tighten the slack a bit and just peer into 2026.

What’s bubbling up to the surface that’s interesting, inspiring, or comforting? What’s right in front of our eyes but under-the-radar enough that your house doesn’t look like a rip-off of every content creator online right now? Well…the following five things, I believe.

The tricky thing about writing an article on decor themes, items, and motifs that haven’t quite yet “hit” but I’m betting will become more mainstream is that there aren’t many pictures to support my cause. “Look, I can’t prove it or show you, but my gut is telling me…this is the next big thing!” Sure, Arlyn…

And while I do believe that what you’re about to read encompasses all things with legs, based on what I’m noticing at the high end of the market (where it all starts), what I’m seeing percolate in stores and design trade shows, it doesn’t really matter. If you love it, DO IT. The only thing I think trends give us is accessibility. Suddenly, that obscure material or color you love can be picked up at your next swing through IKEA, for example. And because fashions come and go so quickly these days, it’ll feel fresh again when everyone has moved on and you’re still into it. Live your truth, babies, whether on trend or not. Deal?

Okay, let’s dive in.

#1: Teal

I’m starting with the most obvious trend: the color teal. I’d say no one has come out and just outright said teal is in, but that would be a lie. WGNS, an international trend forecasting company, named “Transformative Teal” the color of the year for 2026. Now, every paint company around also comes out with their own color, and so far, only one other has picked a blue-green tone (Behr’s Hidden Gem). It makes sense; we’ve all loved and used blue and green, respectively, to the point that we probably don’t even know how to make it feel new anymore. Enter: An efficient combo of both colors! It’s been about 20 years since we last saw teal (or, as we referred to it then, peacock blue) rise to the top of the color pack, but I’ve gotta say, I’m ready for it. Just look how powerful and dreamy it looks in this seating nook by Nicola Harding & Co.

It can feel so refreshing, like a well-timed breath mint, like in this bedroom by one of my favorites, Reath Design. Note to self: Mix teal with buttery yellows, creams, and rust.

While I’ve seen teal being used more and more on walls and surface materials such as tile, never underestimate the power of upholstery. Sure, an armchair (especially these days when everything costs a fortune) is an investment, but it’s far less permanent than tile or stone and a great way to sprinkle in a daring color without it being overly in-your-face. Bonus points for some fringe, like this punchy little number by Lauren Doyle Grant.

The above photo, a design by Sarah Storms, actually showcases a whopping THREE trends I’m going to be discussing today, but I’ll save the non-teal talking points for later as not to give anything away. Anyhow, I’m a big fan of how well teal works with warm woodtones. As we move more into browns and darker wood hues, it’s easy for a jewel-tone like this one to really be a star if you’re after a design that feels friendly, yet elevated, yet saturated.

If you’re sitting here thinking teal has to be all moody, I hope this image from Rue Magazine designed by Jenny Keenan Design proves otherwise. In a room that gets great light, it can feel downright effervescent. Pair it with white and brass for a crisp aesthetic.

Another one by Lauren Grant Design, I do really love teal in a bathroom paired with rich woods and plenty of spa whites and grays.

You’ll have to scroll one photo over in the above carousel for the example I want to point out, but it’s a good one (again, with another trend I’m going to talk about if you keep reading). This kitchen in a home by Atelier LK via Architectural Digest is contemporary without feeling austere due in great part to the teal cabinetry.

Another great bathroom example, here by Owl Design London. It’s a cool monochrome look broken up by a variety of textures.

And finally, teal in a more organic, low-fi application. Try it on some bedding or even just a throw to punch up a neutral color palette, as seen here in a bedroom I found on The Materialist Co.

#2: Vintage Glass Chandeliers & Sconces

Moving on to one of my favorite home categories: Lighting. Metal, linen, and even paper have all been the rage for a few years, but more and more, I’ve been noticing vintage Italian glass chandeliers and sconces coming into the picture, and I LOVE IT. They’re so romantic and posh. Let’s look at a few.

One of the beautiful things about this type of lighting is the soft colors that can be incorporated, like the rainbow-like combination here in a space by Smac Studio. It’s quiet yet speaks volumes and is definitely eye-catching in a way only a few things in a room can be. Has it always been there? Is it new? It’s a lighting enigma.

Again, by Smac Studio, the same design of the chandelier in the previous kitchen shows up in hushed pink in a stately wall sconce.

Once you look past that INSANE jade green island, you start noticing some of the other details of this fancy kitchen by Constanze Ladner, like the beautiful glass sconce on the left wall. Something opaque or metal would have been expected (and still lovely), but the smoky glass is a delightful, surprising moment.

Wow, that sconce. Gorgeous. That vintage piece has the ability to cut through all the newness of this bathroom by the Australian firm Arent & Pyke. Stately and textural without screaming.

Arent & Pyke at it again (with some teal via the desk in the mix, too!). The caption for this image notes that this is a 1970s Mangiarotti chandelier, and it’s amazing to me how something that’s 50+ years old can still come off so modern.

Glass lighting fixtures aren’t just for fancy and elaborate rooms. They can add some serious tension (in a good way, like I wrote about here) to earthy rooms and design aesthetics as seen here in Arch Digest.

#3: Lacquer & High Gloss Finishes

And so we reach one of the trends I’ve hinted at twice already in the above photos, though it’s seen more than the two times I mentioned it. High-gloss is coming, people! After years and years of matte finish everything, lacquer is back. Honestly, this one kind of crept up on me, but it wasn’t until I was perusing East Fork looking for something that I noticed their new gloss finish. I thought, “Hmm…is this a thing?” The more I dove into it, the more and more I started to see it kind of everywhere, specifically in product. For example:

I’ve even been noticing it a lot on finishes like tile, cabinetry, and wall paint:

While this isn’t a shopper post per se, I did want to drive my point home with this little round-up of high-gloss-finish product, from coffee tables to lamps to dressers and sideboards. It’s everywhere, all in candy colors. If it weren’t for the fact that lacquer scratches very easily, I’d be all over this. I’d say stick to one to two high-gloss pieces per spa for maximum impact.

#4: Arts & Crafts Style

On the total opposite side of the spectrum from high-gloss modern lighting and furniture, we have Arts & Crafts style. This “trend” may or may not hit as widely as something like the color teal, but I’m telling you, it’s brewing. I think it’s an answer to all the curvy and glam looks we’ve been seeing the last few years, which is funny, because that’s loosely why Arts & Crafts came to be in the first place both in furniture and in architecture. After the Victorian era and the industrialization of furniture making, this style was an answer to mass production and ornateness (from around 1880 to 1920). It was seen as a return to quality craftsmanship and the beauty of wood in simple forms. Arts & Crafts celebrated joinery and wood itself.

I’m lucky enough to live in a part of California where both Arts & Crafts and Craftsman homes still stand and I have to tell you, they are a site to behold. For those new to this, Craftsman (and Mission) styles were the American offshoot of the British-born Arts & Crafts style. Mission is a leg of Craftsman, and Craftsman is a leg of Arts & Crafts (i.e, all Mission is Arts & Crafts, but not all Arts & Crafts is Mission). They all have similar spirits with streamlined works where wood reigned supreme.

This is an Arts & Crafts home that designer Nina Farmer (another favorite of mine) worked on for a client in Massachusetts. You can see more of it on her profile, but it’s so beautiful, particularly that staircase railing. The sleek, humble, and special warmth of A&C works well in modernday homes because it’s easy to mix in with flashier silhouettes. It’s very grounding.

A&C furniture often had special little details like the hearts in the chair highlighted above in a room by Antonia Stewart.

This room, by Madeline Stuart, just glows! It includes a mix of English, French, Chinese, and American Arts & Crafts pieces against the foundation of A&C architecture (look to the left to see the gorgeous joinery around the mantel of the fireplace). It’s so calming, has so much heart, and is built to last a lifetime.

How good would this chair be in a subtly designed room? You can see that Arts & Crafts lacked ornamentation, unlike what came before it, but it was still distinct and artful in its own way.

Stickley Furniture is the best-known example of American Craftsman-Mission furniture, and it has a long heritage of exquisite craftsmanship. I used to think Stickley pieces were boring, not a fan of the vertical slats common to this style of furniture, but I’ve grown to really appreciate them. The above is a gorgeous 125th anniversary bench by the company that features rare intricate inlays. It’s an heirloom piece (with a price to match).

#5: Wallpaper Borders

Somewhere, in some universe, my mother is still removing all the wallpaper borders in my childhood home. Wallpaper borders (and painted/stenciled borders) were such a staple of 1990s decorating, but well…they’re back. Gone are the blueberry bush branches, chickens and English rose gardens, though. Much of what we’re seeing is geometric, slender, and punchy. Think more “trim” than a six-inch ceiling belt like the days of yore. I gotta say, I love it in the right space.

You can find wallpaper borders in a handful of places like Etsy and Rebel Walls, but the best ones are from UK companies, like Ottoline de Vries (above).

I’m especially fond of these slender borders around windows and doors. It’s kind of like a fun ribbon detail that draws the eyes up and around a room. This one above is by Common Room, again, out of the UK.

I know the last few examples I’ve shown are fairly British, layered and graphic like this character-filled space from Studio Atkinson’s account, but today’s wallpaper borders could also be amazing in a simpler, stark modern space.

I do suspect scallops have reached a fever pitch, but a little wallpaper border in the shape is still very, very cute, especially if just in one small area like a reading nook, as above by Atelier Florentine.

And finally, these thin borders can certainly be used to create the illusion of molding. Take a look at the second photo of the carousel from Studio Atkinson above for some inspiration.

The first official day of fall is next Monday, September 22, though still technically being summer hasn’t stopped anyone (including us here at EHD) from fast-forwarding onto the next season, at the very least from a decorating perspective. And while many consider fall decorating “heavy on the pumpkin,” I much prefer something less “seasonal” and more setting the mood for the long haul. Thankfully, Jess did much of the heavy lifting with her past the other week on the six trends to make your home cozy for fall (and beyond), and I’m here today to round it all out with some shopping with a couple of new ones from me.

Fall Trend #1: Burgundy

I’ve been riding high on burgundy for years, so color me happy now that trends dictate it be offering on all kinds of accessible products for across the home. Blankets, mirrors, lighting, serving dishes, and even wallpaper are all getting the maroon treatment, and I love it. While I love a punch of unexpected red for that wow factor, burgundy is more hushed. The less flashy person in the friend group that knows everyone’s secrets, is super smart, and has a touch of dark humor. Burgundy is the bass player of the band, while red is the lead guitarist. I’m here for it.

Digging up finds was easy, as this color is everywhere right now. Some non-committal decor would include a pretty catch-all dish from Schoolhouse (#1), some splatter enamelware serving dishes (#5), or a super affordable little vase for some fall blooms (#7). Ready to go all in? Opt for more permanent fixtures, like this well-priced sconce by Chris Loves Julia (#3), a very cool modern nightstand to break up standard wood tones in your bedroom (#9), and a sweet yet impactful wallpaper I’m kind of obsessed with (#11).

Fall Trend #2: Outlining

I feel incredibly validated seeing “outlining” as a trend Jess pulled out. Years ago, when I was designing the bedroom I revealed on this site, I planned on doing a ceiling outline after having an image I saw in a high-end magazine stuck in my head from a decade or so prior. Because we were moving shortly after my shoot, I decided to skip it, but I’ve long loved the outline detail. It’s fun to see it a bit more in the mainstream now. While most of the examples Jess showed in her fall trends post involved wall treatments, I wanted to find an actual product that spoke to the look.

You are most likely to see outlines or borders in textiles, though I stretched the limits a bit with a great sofa from Sabai with red piping (#8) and a petite chest/side table with a colored and patterned border (#7). I’m very into that citrine Pepper Home pillow (#5) with the blue fringe border, though you can customize it many different ways on their website. A scalloped border on pillow shams from Bed Threads (#1) brings two trends together, as does the rounded edges on the wool rug from Allmodern (#9). Keep it classic with bordered bedding from Williams-Sonoma, or add a cool, soft yet modern touch to your sofa with a high-quality throw (#3).

Fall Trend #3: Tapestries

Tapestries are *the* hottest trend on this whole list—perhaps I should have started with them? These oversized and often dramatic wall textiles are absolutely everywhere, especially dark, moody landscapes. You may have noticed the beautiful tapestry above Mallory’s sofa in her recent living room reveal (it’s #2 here!). That room is a testament to how well they work in not just traditional or regal settings but also modern or minimal aesthetics. Here’s a rundown of some of my current favorites:

I’ve long been fascinated by the work of Jaime Hayon, so I was thrilled to see #1, which is by the Spanish artist and designer through Lumens. Similar to Mallory’s, #4 has some cooler tones in it and is more vertical than horizontal. My picks shown at #7 and #11 are also predominantly blue, which I think are a bit more “friendly” to work into a room. If you’re after some scenic depictions of country life or Medieval art, check out #6, #10, and #12. Don’t forget that you can always use a rug as a tapestry if it’s not too thick, which is why I picked #8 from Joon Loloi by Drew Michael Scott of Lone Fox, as well as this fun little vintage number from the 1990s (#5). And for something totally different and vibrant, #9 is a patchwork Pakistan textile that would be the star of whatever wall it graces.

Fall Trend #4: Semi-Sheer Taupe Curtains

Want something more romantic and warmer than white curtains with plenty of light-filtering capabilities? Semi-sheer taupe curtains may be just the thing! From my research, it’s clear “taupe” is one of those colors that is somewhat up to interpretation, but essentially, it’s a warm dark beige-gray. You may also find it difficult to find “semi-sheer” by name, but what you’re after is a thin linen, cotton, or even an actual sheer with lining (available mostly through custom drapery retailers).

If your budget is robust, consider these gorgeous drapes from Nordic Knots (#1), or custom picks from Two Pages (#3) or Gotain (#6). Ready-to-hang options can be found at places like West Elm (#2), H&M (#4), IKEA, and even Amazon (#9) from as low as $30 for a pair of panels (#5) to around $100, give or take (#2 and #8).

Fall Trend #5: Whimsical Beds

I was a bit surprised to see this on Jess’ list, but if you know anything about me and my design leanings, you’ll know I was also delighted. Whimsy is a big factor of rooms that make my heart pitter-patter, though usually in small doses. A bed being one of the largest moments in our sleeping quarters, it’s not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure.

I rounded up a grouping of antique, vintage, and new beds and headboards, with a huge spectrum of pricing. Obviously, the most expensive ones being antique, whether from the 1890s (#7) or 1920s (#5). I’m seriously eyeing #1 because the price is so good and it would be perfect for my daughter’s next big-girl bed, and speaks to her love of all things Frozen. Though man, I’m very into that tapestry headboard from Anthropologie (#4) and the full-print upholstered bed from CB2 (#6). Another fabric option is from the collab no one asked for—The White Lotus—but the product itself is quite beautiful (#8).

Fall Trends #6: Chrome Finishes

Bonus trends! There were some parts of Jess’ post that were hard to bring into product roundup form (the color palette she highlighted, for instance), so I decided to add two other trends to the conversation to round out this post: Chrome, and twists—up next. Now, chrome isn’t distinctly a fall fashion as it’s become more and more popular in the last year or two, but it would be silly not to include it here since there is so much product on the market now to justify it. Chrome is everywhere, and I think it’s such a sharp, edgy finish that could fit into any room, even if just in small doses.

Try it on vases (#3), table lamps (#4), or pretty catch-alls (#7 or #9). A coffee table (#6) or side table (#1 or #5) is the next size up, or opt for it as the frame of an armchair (#2) for a deeper commitment. Or, my long-time favorite, in an object such as the Tangle sculpture (#8), which pivots at multiple joints to create endless sinuous shapes (I want one for the center of my dining table one day).

Fall Trend #7: Twists & Braided Wood

And finally, the final trend roundup of the bunch: Twists! This one is more under the radar, I think, not to mention harder to find product for, but it’s there, and it’s visible if you keep your eyes open. Some of the wood pieces originally felt a little dated to me, but in the right room, or in different materials, it’s just a different visual touch that adds softness and character.

You can buy into this cozy trend for as low as $11 with a cute twisted taper candle from Etsy (#4) or a thicker pillar candle for about twice that from McGee & Co (#8). I’m very into the twisted marble tray (#1) and the chunky twist mirror from Anthro (#2). Both the console table (#5) and side table (#7) are fairly classic with its turned twisty legs, but for something with some more flair, take a look at the table from Joon Loloi (#3).

And there you are, my friends! I like these kinds of shopping posts because we don’t all need new curtains or sofas or case goods, but sometimes, picking up a $40 candle holder just feels really good and fun, like you’re part of something, no matter how silly that sounds. Tiny pleasures are immensely important to me in these tumultuous days, so by all means, pick up a new-to-you tapestry to transform a room in your home, or a splatter platter to liven up your next dinner, whether it’s solo or with guests.

While I have slightly mixed feelings about letting summer go, there’s really nothing like fall. I mean, we say it every year, right? So, to fully shed my sandals’ tan and dreaming of swimming in the ocean (of which I only did once this summer…FAIL), I thought we could look at the design trends that are here, happening, and helping us get in the cozy mood. If nothing else, I guarantee your serotonin levels will rise from looking at all of these beautiful rooms. Let’s start with a bolder one:)

Outlining

This one has been sneaky, but over this past year has been slowly growing. These first two examples are the “higher-end versions”. Both of these “outlines” are done with, I believe, wood and look incredibly chic. Obviously, high contrast is the name of the game. The example on the left is more of a classic contrast moulding detail, but it gives the effect that the trend is trying to accomplish…drama. I think that dark but warm wood moulding against warm white walls is going in my dream home. The example on the left is a much more intentional outlining of the room and is SUCH a statement without a lot of color or materials. Something to consider is remodeling:)

But you don’t need expensive wood to give a room this look. Both of these examples used paint! The example on the left created its own outline with extra detailing, which is so creative. Then the example on the right simply followed the ceiling and gave it a little something extra, both subtle and a statement. Actually, if you follow our girl Mallory, she did a version of this on her bedroom closet cabinets, and it looks so great!

Slightly Sheer Taupe Curtains

Taupe, natural, flax, etc, are all colors included in this “trend”. These warm neutral curtains are really everywhere! Not a new idea in the slightest, but especially in the high-end homes, people are swapping white and cream for taupe. Seeing all of these homes even got me, and I made the same decision in my bedroom (the shoot is happening in 2.5 weeks!!!!!). See how happy Bobby Flay is in his taupe-draped living/dining room? We should all be that happy sitting in our homes:)

If you want to go blackout, that’s totally great and your call. However, this “trend” is about the semi-sheer. You want that warm sunlight to pass through those curtains to create a happy, warm glow. I can’t tell you from personal experience, it’s magical. This iconic Eames House is the perfect example to show that (obviously) this is not in any way new but is completely timeless and inviting.

Burgundy

Burgundy has been making its way onto our feeds and into our homes for a minute, and we see no sign of it slowing down anytime soon. I adore it when people and designers go bold and cover a whole room with it. It’s moody, sexy, and so inviting. How stunning are those spaces?! Personally, I love a burgundy that leans a little brown, but there are lots of different options to try out.

Maybe painting an entire room is a little too much for you, personally. What about a piece of furniture like these beautiful sofas? And if you scroll through the photos, you’ll see the coolest cylinder bar cabinet in a similar burgundy tone. To me, burgundy = cool sophistication.

Of course, you can go even smaller with it. These two spaces have furniture-based burgundy accents, but pillows, vases, throws, candlesticks, etc., are all great ways to add this color into your home, whether it’s for the fall/winter season or indefinitely. This color isn’t going anywhere.

THE Color Palette – Burgundy, Olive, Blue, And Ochre

Now, Caitlin gets all the credit for this one! She’s got such an incredible eye for color palettes, and as soon as she mentioned it, I realized that it was all over my saved photos in different variations. Take the bedroom on the left, the tones are more subtle, so it’s softer on the eye, but still so fun and eclectic. Shapeless Studio is always ahead of the curve. Speaking of trendsetters, Flack Studio is another UNREAL design studio that is always bringing creativity to the forefront. This furniture factory turned home is a feast for the eyes and very much abides by this overall color palette. But like the bedroom, it isn’t visually too overstimulating because the colors are all pretty mid-toned and not overly saturated. Just incredible.

Clearly, people are really feeling this color palette in a bedroom. What I love is that you can really make it your own based on the color you want to highlight, versus what colors are more secondary. I’d say green is a main color for both spaces, but the room on the left leans more into the burgundy/purple, while the room on the right leans more into the blue.

Reath Design is another studio I would trust wholeheartedly with mixing colors because every room they design is, well, perfect. This is a more liberal take on the trendy color palette, but all of these spaces are done so beautifully that there’s no way they’ll feel dated anytime soon.

European Tapestries (It’s A Takeover!!)

Those pastoral tapestries are bigger than they’ve been in a while! I can’t scroll on anything without seeing a handful of rooms with one in them. Just so we’re clear, I am a huge fan. If you’re lucky enough to find a big one (at a reasonable price, which is subjective, I guess), then it’s the most beautiful statement piece. I love how these two bedrooms use them to almost give the illusion of a huge headboard. Also, stylistically, they are versatile. The room on the left is very clean, slightly moody, and purposefully gives a high-end luxury hotel look. While the room on the right is still beautiful, it has a lighter, “happier” color palette and looks more relaxed feel. Both tapestries really make the rooms sing.

I wanted to include this because I love the paneled tapestry look:)

But bedrooms aren’t the only ideal room for this type of tapestry. Give me a large tapestry in a living room any day. It’s just wild how much movement, texture, and soul they add to a space. Of course, you don’t have to just have them on your walls. Pillows and furniture pieces also come adorned in the same kind of fabric, which is a really fun twist.

Whimsical Beds

My last observation is that a lot of beds I’m seeing are becoming more whimsical, and why not?! I love it. This room is a suite at a stunning hotel, but that canopy style has been popping up more on my feed. Remember the first shared kids’ room Em designed for her kids in their Los Feliz home?

This is not in a hotel but in a magical home. The kids who get to sleep in here are very lucky. I also love that the canopies are placed in the traditional way, and instead, coming from the side.

There’s also the option of creating a DIY framed draped headboard like design influencer, Marco Zamora did in his bedroom. It’s all very romantic!

But it’s not all about big pieces of draped fabric; I’ve also been noticing more whimsical detailing in wooden headboards, too. Both of these are great interpretations of that. So if you’ve needed a sign to go whimsical with your bed, I say go for it:)
