There are some fun ideas here! Not sure I want swans to trend because then mine will feel outdated at some point. Ha! Excited about the large photographs since I went back to that in my living room a few months ago. I put a large fall landscape in during the autumn months and switched it for a snowy one for winter. They are my photographs so that makes it extra special!

In reply to <a href="https://stylebyemilyhenderson.com/11-decor-trends-2026#comment-728314">Liz</a>.

There are lots of answers to this question! I'll just chime in with one tip: the more you look, the better you see. I look at things, some inspiring, some not so much, all day, every day, and that trains me to know when I like something and it fits into my style, versus just liking something because it's a shiny object.

For example, you could look at your wardrobe to see if you gravitate toward certain colors, materials, shapes, textures, etc., and then consider bringing those into your home. Or, maybe it's less literal than that. Maybe think about how your favorite poem makes you feel and brainstorm what kinds of furniture shapes and layout options would give you that feeling. If you do this all the time [as an exercise; you don't have to constantly redesign your home], you'll get better as sussing out what feels right and how to attain it.

IN addition, how DOES a person develop their own eye, and learn how to bring their own tastes into a design?

I LOVE looking at beautiful design photos, but find this many of them overwhelming. Like being faced with a whole table full of desserts and it's all too much. I'm curious about how the EHD team handles this (it could be an interesting post). I'm assuming you look at design photos and inspiration and shopping sites a LOT. How do you avoid getting oversaturated and starting to hate it all? How do you avoid having all the trends start to blur and become meaningless? How do you continue to stay true to your distinctive design "voice," when you're constantly faced with all the photos of what everyone else is doing?

I'm liking so many of these! I'm particularly looking forward to some chik blind imitators that don't have a manual cord that needs to be tied off at a cleat. Not sure about tin... some of the examples are art deco beautiful, but some simply look flimsy and cheap.

I giggled at that this morning. It’s textbook Jess, her misspellings are always so cute. I am not worried about AI taking over the world because our fricking devices can’t even figure out how to autocorrect misspelled words!
